Abdominoplasty
(Dermolipectomy)
Goal: To remove skin and fat excess of the abdominal wall.
Operative technique: So called bikini line incision is placed horizontally in the lower abdomen just above the pubic region, and deep to the abdominal wall muscles. Excess skin and adipose tissue are removed and umbulicus eventually transposed higher up. If necessary, liposuction of the hips, buttocks and lumbal region can be performed at the same time, as well as the abdominal muscles re-enforcement. Aspiration drains are placed for a few days.
Duration and anesthesia: The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts 2 – 4 hours, depending on the extensiveness. The easier operation is just the removal of the hanging lower abdomen.
Recovery: Drains are removed in 2 – 3 days, and stitches in 10 – 14 days. After the surgery elastic garment is worn for about one month and the patients are advised to refrain from intensive physical activities during that period.
Rare complications: Abdominal wall edema and prolonged seroma formation
